Catholic Charities partnering with three hospitals to serve Baltimore's Hispanic community

This approach suggests collaboration among health systems, lead by Catholic organizations, can make a difference in an underserved community that faces significant health barriers.
“After an initial $10 payment, doctors from St. Joseph will provide free adult primary care, those from St. Agnes will offer OB-GYN services, and Hopkins physicians will offer pediatric primary care.
Catholic Charities, which is providing infrastructure such as staff and offices, also is in talks with the University of Maryland School of Dentistry for dental services at the site. Providers will visit the Health Services Center on a weekly or monthly basis, said Fickes. Many of the patient visits probably will be initial consultations, with further care provided elsewhere. "We see this as a front door to their health care," said Dr. Raymond Cox, chair of obstetrics and gynecology at St. Agnes.”
